Two pet rabbits made a lucky escape after their hutch was blown onto a roof in the Waikato town of Ngāhinapōuri on Monday night.
Owner Katrina Cordes told Newshub her “giant” rabbit hutch lifted up and blew onto the roof, as a result of the severe winds from Cyclone Gabrielle.
“My partner and I heard a bang and when we went to take a look the rabbit hutch was on the roof,” she said.
Cordes said they had tied the hutch down but, an hour later, it was blown undone again.
“What the hell?” she said when asked what her reaction was. “[I was] shocked it came out of the ground.”
Luckily, Cordes said she’s brought the rabbits inside her house before the hutch blew away.
She said her partner later managed to push the hutch back off the roof onto the ground.
There did not appear to be any damage to her roof as a result, Cordes said.
“I just find it funny, to be honest.”
