Police have arrested the third and last remaining prisoner who escaped from a van taking them to Auckland’s Mt Eden prison last week.
Auckland City CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Lisa Anderson said the prisoner was located and arrested in the Auckland region overnight.
A 43-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court on charges of breaching court release conditions and offences related to the stolen vehicle.
“Police would like to thank the public for their cooperation and vigilance in this matter over the last week,” Anderson said.
“As the matter is now before the Court, there is no further comment.”
It comes after two of the escaped prisoners were arrested on Tuesday after spending several days on the run after escaping from a prison escort van on Friday.
A witness at the scene spotted the men fleeing the van while on the Southern Motorway.
“The three prisoners literally sprinted across the motorway where the Mount Wellington highway connects to the State Highway 1 part,” they told Newshub.
