A shopping cart, red band gumboots and a bridge: Why police are looking for three people who stole a trolley

Police say the incident caused "major disruptions".

An early morning trolley excursion ended in “major disruption” in Balclutha after three bandits precariously placed a trolley on top of a bridge.

Southern District Police are seeking information from the public after three trolley troublemakers were seen placing a shopping cart on top of the Balclutha Bridge on Sunday at 5:30am.

One person, sporting Red Band gumboots, can be seen taking a trolley from the local Countdown’s trolley bay.

In CCTV images shared by the Southern District Police, the three shopping cart criminals are seen taking the trolley for what appears to be a joy ride around the streets.

In a Facebook post, Southern District Police said the trolley on top of the bridge forced the road to close and a crane was brought in to remove it.

“Police are working to identify those responsible,” the Facebook post read.

Police are asking anyone who recognises the people involved or has any information on the incident to contact police on 105 referencing file 230308/8290.
