Woman arrested after allegedly ramming police car while fleeing near Te Awamutu

She is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Friday.

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly ramming a police car while fleeing near Te Awamutu on Thursday.

Waikato police were responding to reports of shoplifting in Cambridge when they were rammed by the alleged offender.

The driver fled from police before crashing into another car in Te Awamutu. She suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody.

The woman is due to appear in Hamilton District court on Friday charged with shoplifting, aggravated assault and dangerous driving.

Waikato West Area Commander Inspector Will Loughrin said the offences are unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the community.

“We will do all we can to hold these offenders to account,” he said.
