Armed police have cordoned off several streets in Pukekohe after reports of gunfire on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services swarmed to the town south of Auckland as the incident unfolded on Birdwood Rd.
A witness told the NZ Herald they saw a police Eagle helicopter along with armed police officers with dogs.
A police spokesperson told Newshub the public is asked to avoid the area.
