Auckland police have arrested three people, while others remain on the run following an early morning ram raid.
Police were called to a commercial property on Chartwell Ave, Glenfield, just before 1am on Monday.
A police spokesperson said a group of offenders bolted from the scene minutes after ram-raiding the store.
“[The police] Eagle has observed a vehicle in the vicinity which has sped off at pace, exiting and returning to the SH1 and 16 motorways numerous times,” the spokesperson said.
Police say the vehicle “finally” exited SH16 at Massey where several offenders got out of the vehicle and into a second vehicle that was waiting.
The cars then headed in opposite directions while the Eagle helicopter continued to observe them.
Police haven’t said how, but three offenders have since been taken into custody – while an unknown number remain on the run from police.
The police spokesperson said charges are pending for the arrested trio, while enquiries into the other offenders are still “ongoing”.
