Truck hits Wellington bridge, blocks main highway

A truck is blocking a main Wellington highway after it hit a bridge, causing it to get stuck.

The truck is blocking both lanes after hitting a bridge near the Thorndon Quay off-ramp at around 6.30am Wednesday. 

Police are urging motorists to avoid travel or consider taking an alternative route while the scene is cleared.

“Traffic is reported to be moderate to heavy and building in the area,” a spokesperson said.

The truck is likely to remain at the scene for most of the morning.
