Lotto is urging Kiwis to get in quick to secure their chance at winning a life-changing amount of money on Saturday.
Successive weeks without a big winner means the Powerball jackpot has risen to a staggering $30 million tonight.
There’s also $1 million up for grabs in first division, and $300,000 in Strike.
Ticket sales close at 7:30pm on Saturday, Lotto says on its website. It’s encouraging players to pick up a ticket early to avoid the busiest times both in-store and online.
And if you do take out the big prize, Lotto has revealed not all winners celebrate with champagne.
Speaking on More FM’s Jay-Jay and Flynny, Lotto’s head of winner experience Lucy Fullarton said while there was a special room for winners at their Auckland HQ, most people opt for a “glass of water” to celebrate.
“They usually haven’t slept or eaten much. They are often in shock, in a funny way, in a good way, they are over the moon.”
Fullarton wouldn’t be drawn on how many extra tickets would be bought for Saturday’s draw, but she did say anecdotally that “more people come in for more tickets” as soon as the jackpot got over the $20 million mark.
