Auckland trains delayed after trespassers end up on tracks

Auckland trains delayed after trespassers end up on tracks

Trains in central Auckland have been delayed after trespassers were reported to be on the tracks on Friday afternoon.

In a tweet at just 1pm, Auckland Transport (AT) warned commuters to prepare for delays and potential train cancellations after a group of people were reported on the tracks.

“Trespassers have been reported in the tunnel between Newmarket and Parnell Stations and trains are being held back while the tracks are checked for clearance,” AT said.

“Delays and possible cancellations are expected on all lines.”

But police confirmed to Stuff the trespassers were just “confused tourists”.

In an update at 2pm, AT said trains have been temporarily suspended between Britomart and Newmarket because clearance has not yet been received.

“Trains are starting and finishing at Newmarket instead of Britomart. Scheduled buses are accepting rail tickets along all lines,” AT said.
